Half-term seaside swimming adventure

02/11/2021

Ah half term - the time to be away from the Lido. But never fear as the sea is there!

The weather was glorious as I ventured into the North Sea on October 30th - a bright sunny day at Wells-next-the-Sea with a beach hut hired for the day to warm up in complete with a gas hob for the all important cup of tea post-swim.  On a beach I know well I was still somewhat wary getting in as the tides can be quick here and the current strong....and who knew what the water temperature was?! However the good news was I had NOT forgotten my wetsuit.

The even better news was the water was warm (ish), the currents were ok (easy swimming one way...hard swimming the other) and the sea was most definitely not closed and was (unsurprisingly) not full.  I had a couple of seals for company and some tour boats - who looked somewhat perplexed but I'd like to think impressed at the same time.

A post-swim cup of tea, slice of cake and sit in the beach hut and the thought of getting back in again was strong but decided against.  It's truly wonderful to move out of the swimming pool at times and embrace a new adventure.
